Started our day in
Bruton (South from Batheaston down A361) with breakfast at the Chapel
restaurant and boutique hotel.
After a quick walk around Bruton, we moved on to Wincanton to check out a cool bakery there
Continued
on (south to the A303) to our destination National Trust Property, Montacute

This Elizabethan
manor house has been in the Phelips family since 1598 to 1927, when the manor
was acquired by the National Trust.
Edward Phelips, a
successful barrister, was the main prosecutor in the Gunpowder Plot trials.
Well tended gardens
and an Orangery were also on the property; managed by National Trust gardeners
and local volunteers
